Having starred as Estella in Mike Newell’s film adaptation of Great Expectations, Holliday Grainger knows a thing or two about frustrated passions. The 24-year-old actress is, however, to undertake a new experience by performing a love scene with her former boyfriend’s chum.

Later this month, she will appear in the play Dissociation, which is directed by her ex-lover, Luke Bailey, at the Lowry Theatre in Salford, Greater Manchester.

“We are still the best of friends,” Grainger tells Mandrake at the English National Ballet. “There is a kissing scene in it, actually, and the male lead is his friend, so he’ll be directing his ex-girlfriend to kiss his friend. I hadn’t thought of that before. It will be fine, though.”
